Transcendence and present. The kapala is a ritual object used in Tibetan Buddhist practices. The space between life and death is nothing but a moment. Experiencing the present moment as it is, not how we would like it to be.

The Anaconda mural initially started as life sized waterfall. I wanted to create a living environment for the public to interact with. The mural was used as a back drop for group photos enjoying the cascading water. The snake was later added to show contrast between beauty and what lies beneath. Many people express disappointment that the image had shifted from a beautiful landscape to a more sinister scene.
2018 - Olds Town Square, AB Canada
With the assistance of my brother-in-law Rune Christensen (a contemporary painter from Denmark) we installed the mural over the course of three days in the fall of 2018. The image is inspired from the wetland areas that surround the town of Olds. As a birdwatcher in my youth it was always a special occasion to catch a glimpse of a Great Blue Heron.

The stegosaurus was a result of this playfulness. During the previous festival I was interviewed by school groups and family’s enjoying the festival. Memories of my childhood fascination with dinosaurs emerged and the process of resurrecting the prehistoric began. With only a skeleton as reference the perfect foundation for creativity was unearthed.

The Samurai is a powerful image. Ornately decorated but equipped for mortal combat. The horse propels the rider forward possibly delivering a message or heading to battle. The intention of this piece is to create a moment where the viewing meets the character mid-action.

The Koi project faced many challenges to come to fruition. Introducing new ideas into a conservative landscape is often met with resistance. The main challenge was local bylaws stating (signs, murals and super-graphics in the uptown area were to be of historic significance) As a community residences banned together to contest the bylaw. Expressing the diversity and strength of local history. The Koi Mural has became a symbol of community spirit within Olds. I am proud of the project and continue to support freedom of expression.
